Issuing country and filed document
Tell us whether the source comes from Portugal, Brazil or another country and who in Madrid will receive it. Civil certificates, academic records, powers of attorney, deeds and company extracts can all be assessed. An administrative term cannot be understood from the language alone: its function depends on the issuing system. Legal translation examines clauses and names without inventing institutional equivalents.
Send seals, annexes and marked reverse sides. A later certification can affect which version is filed. If a copy is unclear, we ask for another rather than reconstruct a registration number from a different document. For a company, identify the extracts and powers submitted together and those supplied only as background.
Personal and academic certificates
A civil record or qualification can carry marginal notes and supplements. Translation conveys the original awards, grades and details; it does not grant academic recognition in Spain. The receiving body decides whether it needs every item, a recent issue or a particular form. Sharing its instructions before quotation prevents a single-page assignment from overlooking an attachment that it expects.

Portuguese translation without sworn form can suit negotiation or internal understanding. Similarity to Spanish does not remove the need for review: familiar-looking words and institutional formulae can change the meaning. Formal certification should not be ordered routinely where the recipient has not requested it.
Direction and use abroad
Portuguese into Spanish and Spanish into Portuguese require separate confirmation. For a Spanish procedure we check the applicable authorisation and availability. For a Spanish document going to Portugal or Brazil, ask the local body what translation and certification it accepts. Spanish sworn status is not automatically equivalent to every destination formality.
A file may include English or French sections alongside Portuguese. Mark what needs translating. Bilingual versions need not contain the same later notes. The country and language of each item should be identified before scope is agreed, particularly when related documents were issued by different authorities.
Signature, medium and apostille
The authorised professional signs and certifies under the applicable framework. Electronic signing may be possible where the proper method is used and the recipient accepts a digital file. A printout of a signed PDF is not automatically the electronic original. State paper, extra-copy or dispatch needs in the request.

Apostille or legalisation of the underlying record is separate from translation. The receiving body determines if it is required and for which item. Include an existing authentication so its wording can be assessed for translation. Certifying the translation does not authenticate the source document.
Preparing a useful enquiry
Send every legible page, issuing country, direction, receiving organisation, deadline and output form. Share written instructions and identify the definitive records. Length, seals, subject and professional availability shape time and price. If several versions of one certificate exist, mark the one to be filed: the issue date may matter to the recipient.
Read about sworn translation and our quality process. Use the quote form to share the documents. Where a company file includes Portuguese and Brazilian records, their distinct origins remain clear rather than treating them as interchangeable forms.
For a cross-border transaction, an agreement in Portuguese may cite attachments issued by another company or authority. Identify which form part of the file to be submitted and which merely explain the business background. The sworn translation must correspond to the items selected by the receiving body. If the agreement changes during negotiation, send the approved version before certification; otherwise an older clause could be paired with a newer annex. The relationship between pieces is checked without merging separate source documents into one.
Frequently asked questions
Does it matter whether the document comes from Brazil or Portugal?
Yes. Give the issuing country and body so its content can be read in context. The Spanish recipient determines the required form. Send all pages and seals.
Can a Brazilian power of attorney be translated for Spain?
We can assess it with annexes and the recipient's requirements. Direction and professional availability are checked. Source authentication, if needed, is considered separately.
Does similarity to Spanish remove the need for review?
No. Close-looking words can serve different purposes, and legal wording depends on the country. Linguistic similarity does not simplify the certification rules.
Will a Spanish sworn translation work in Portugal?
That should not be assumed. Ask the Portuguese organisation what certification it accepts. Its instructions determine whether the Spanish form is suitable.
Can it be supplied as an electronically signed file?
That depends on the professional and the recipient's acceptance. Confirm whether it accepts a signed PDF or requires paper. Printing the file may not preserve the electronic signature's properties.
