English documents for Spain
Birth and marriage records, qualifications, powers of attorney, agreements and company papers can come from the UK, the US or another English-speaking country. Similar language does not make their institutions identical. Tell us where the document was issued and who in Spain will receive it. A certificate may have later notes and a marked reverse; a deed may carry annexes whose terms need to remain consistent through legal translation.
Send every page and identify the version you will file. If a record was reissued or corrected, the definitive copy matters. Names and dates should not be reconstructed from an indistinct scan. A translated qualification sets out the source award and marks but does not decide its academic equivalence in Spain; the receiving institution handles that separately.
Sworn in Spain and certified in Britain
English into Spanish and Spanish into English are distinct directions. For an English original submitted in Spain, we check the authorisation relevant to Spanish sworn translation and the accepted presentation form. For a Spanish record going to a British organisation, ask that organisation what it means by certified translation. A Spanish sworn certificate is not automatically interchangeable with the declaration and details its own process requests.

In a UK context, certified translation is often the natural term for a translation accompanied by the translator's statement and identifying details. The exact requirements belong to the recipient. English translation without formal certification may suit internal reading or business discussion. Avoiding an assumption about labels can save a second application or a document that the destination body will not accept.
Mixed-language attachments
A certificate may have an apostille in another language or a bilingual attachment. Send the whole set and mark what needs translating. The two versions of a form should not be assumed identical. An international agreement can also specify which language version prevails; tell us so the right source is used for the commissioned assignment.
An earlier English translation can help establish names and terminology if it is approved. It cannot simply be certified as if it were a translation of a newer or different source. The professional's certification and the accuracy of the underlying wording are both relevant. If several records have changed, show how the versions connect.
Signature and delivery
Under the Spanish system, the authorised professional certifies and signs in the applicable form. Electronic signing may permit digital delivery where the method is available and the recipient accepts the electronic file. Ask whether paper, copies or dispatch are needed; printing a signed PDF may not preserve the electronic original's properties. For an overseas recipient, establish its presentation rules before selecting the service.

Apostille or legalisation of the underlying document is separate from sworn translation. The recipient decides whether authentication is required and for which item. Include an existing apostille so its wording can be assessed for translation. A translator's signature does not itself authenticate a source record that needs another formality.
Request a quotation with the recipient in mind
Send a complete legible file, countries of issue and use, direction, deadline and required format. Share the authority's or organisation's written instructions. Content, annotations, subject and professional availability determine scope and price. A short certificate with several notes can take more assessment than a clear page of running text.
Read about sworn translation and our quality checks, then use the quote form to send the material. If one document has separate uses in Spain and Britain, describe both: each receiving body may need a different deliverable.
Frequently asked questions
Does an English certificate for Spain need sworn translation?
The Spanish receiving organisation and procedure decide that. Send its instructions and every page. We confirm direction and an authorised professional's availability before accepting the sworn assignment.
Are Spanish sworn and British certified translation the same?
They should not be treated as automatic equivalents. Each recipient determines the statement, details and form it accepts. Give us the country and organisation to assess the appropriate service.
Can a Spanish deed be translated into English for the UK?
We can assess the deed and its annexes. Ask the British recipient what certification it requires. Spanish sworn form is proposed only where it fits those instructions.
Can a sworn translation be electronically signed?
It depends on the professional's method and the receiving body's acceptance. Confirm whether it needs a digital file or paper. Printing a signed PDF may not preserve its electronic signature properties.
Is an apostille included?
Apostille, where required, is obtained separately from translation. The recipient decides whether it needs one. Include an existing apostille so its wording can be assessed for translation.
